-
POS application compatibility
Supports applications written for the Win32 APIs and .NET Framework. Provides support to Java virtual machines. Compatible with applications written for Windows 9x, Windows NT, Windows 2000, and Windows XP.
-
POS peripheral interoperability
Supports the Unified POS standard (OPOS and Point of Service for .NET) for retail device peripherals, including cash drawer, check scanner, line display, MSR, PIN pad, keyboard, printer, scanner, belt, electronic transaction management, door/gate, item dispenser, light, and RFID scanner as part of your point of sale system. Also supports Non-Unified POS devices via "generic" device base class and provides legacy support for OPOS drivers 1.08 and above.
-
Plug-n-Play functionality
Deploy retail device peripherals using Plug-n-Play, update peripherals more easily, and decrease point of sale system support costs through streamlined integration.
-
Security features
Provide enterprise-class manageability and customer-level device protection for your point of sale system with security updates through Windows Update. Integrate robust security features into your device easily with Windows XP Professional security features, including built-in firewalls.
-
Drivers compatibility
Compatible with technology built for Windows XP Professional, including existing Windows XP SP3 drivers.
-
Windows XP Professional, Win32 APIs
Use standard hardware and run standard off-the-shelf Win32 applications, drivers, or services with little or no porting required.
-
Language support
Includes Multilingual User Interface (MUI) support for OS menu items and applications for 32 languages.
-
Service a runtime image remotely
Microsoft Systems Center Configuration Manager (SCCM/SMS) monitors and manages software updates for Windows Embedded POSReady-based devices. As SCCM updates software on the network, the point of sale systems can automatically receive updates. SCCM is designed for use in larger organizations.
-
Ease of manufacturing process
POSReady installation allows OEMs to build a one-time OS image and supports auto-configuration of the computer security ID (SID) and machine name during installation. Sysprep and FBReseal can be used to generalize the SID, computer name, and IP address, allowing multiple systems to coexist on a network.
